The Medicine Lodge Lake and Lower Paintrock Lake Campgrounds will be completely overhauled this summer. We expect reconstruction work to begin in June and end in September and should take approximately 12 to 14 weeks to complete.
Reconstruction of Medicine Lodge Lake Campground will take place first and Lower Paintrock Lake Campground will remain open while Medicine Lodge Lake Campground is closed.
Once reconstruction of Medicine Lodge Lake Campground is completed, work will then commence on the Lower Paintrock Lake Campground.
A new fisherman’s parking area will be constructed where the presently closed Upper Paintrock Campground is located. This will allow for easier access to Upper Paintrock Lake.
The new facility will not be available for the beginning of the summer 2012 season as the project was not completed as anticipated. The old Hunter CG will be used until construction of the new facility is complete. The water well has been abandoned so please bring your own potable water. The camping fee will be reduced to $8.00 per night. Tentative opening is planned for mid-summer. No dispersed camping will be permitted within approximately one mile of the old Hunter CG due to ongoing construction work. It is recommended that anyone wanting to camp at Hunter CG during the summer of 2012 make a reservation for their visit using www.recreation.gov.
