Porcupine Campground and Gull Rock Trailhead near the community of Hope has was closed for construction in 2011. Work will continue throughout part of the summer of 2012. We expect the campground to be open to the public by July. The campground has been removed from the reservation system for the summer 2012 due to upgrades to the reservation system. If the campground is completed before the reservation system upgrades are in place, Porcupine Campground will be available on a first-come first serve basis. All attempts will be made to maintain access to the Gull Rock Trail during constrution.
The reconstruction involves road and camp site improvements and new restrooms. A new trailhead will be constructed outside the campground to serve as an acess point to the Gull Rock Trail.

Recent north to northeast wind has loaded south to southwest aspects at tree line and above. Avalanche activity has been limited, though a very large avalanche recently occurred on the northwest side of Mt. Eyak.

The decision was shaped by extensive public collaboration. In 2004 the Forest began holding public meetings in order to discuss non-motorized and motorized use in the area. A decision was reached using ideas generated in the public meetings, through written input, and interdisciplinary team meetings.
