The Forest Service has announced that with the approach of Tropical Storm Erika, El Yunque National Forest will be closed effective Thursday August 27. As a precaution for visitor safety, the Forest will remain closed to the public and outfitter/guide operations until further notice. Please monitor weather updates and media advisories as to when the Forest will re-open or follow the Forest Twitter page at: www.twitter.com/elyunquenf
The Forest re-opened El Portal Visitor Center on Sunday, August 30. Access along Rd 988 to Puente Roto and Angelito Trail is also now available. Use caution when driving in area due to vegetation and branches on the road.
Camping and issuance of camping permits has been suspended until it has been determined that conditions are safe to resume camping in designated areas.
