Duke Energy contractors will continue working on Beechertown Road (FS Road 308) on the Nantahala Ranger District extending the temporary closure to through traffic until September 30, 2016.
The closure is for the safety of the public and work crew who are performing maintenance on Duke Energy's Whiteoak Creek Penstock. Duke Energy contractors will be recoating a pipe that runs parallel to the road. The work requires scaffolding, sandblasting, painting, and equipment in close proximity to the road.
According to Nantahala District Ranger Mike Wilkins "Anglers and other recreational users will still be able to use most of the road from either end, however they will not be able to travel through the quarter mile construction zone."
The public will be able to travel north from State Highway 1401, Junaluska Rd, for three-quarters of a mile. They will also be able to travel south from State Highway 1310, Wayah Rd, for 2 miles.
