The Francis Marion Ranger District is planning an 1,145-acre prescribed fire in Compartment 134 in the Waterhorn area of Berkeley County tomorrow (3/29). Echaw Road (FS 204) will be closed to thru traffic, as well as, the secondary roads within the compartment. Transport winds are forecasted to be out of the west tomorrow, US 17 will be the smoke sensitive area at eight miles downwind.
On Saturday (3/30) the Ranger District is planning on burning 1,716 acres in Compartment 95 in Berkeley County north of Steed Creek Road and west of Halfway Creek Road. Dog Swamp Road (FS 265, 265A) and Bob Morris Road (FS 174) will be closed for the duration of the burn. The Palmetto Trail will also be closed between these roads.
Transport winds on Saturday are forecasted to be out of the southwest, Honey Hill will be the smoke sensitive area at 10 miles downwind.
The objectives for both of these burns are to improve wildlife habitat for threatened & endangered species, maintain fire adapted ecosystems, and hazardous fuels reduction.
