Forest Service Cheaha Wilderness Wildfire is Contained

Release Date: Oct 12, 2016

Montgomery, AL (October 12, 2016) ---- USDA Forest Service officials announced that the “High Point” wildfire in the Cheaha Wilderness is contained as firefighters conduct 100 percent mop-up. The wildfire is in monitor status at this time.  Due to the drought conditions and no rain in the forecast, campfire restrictions are still in place. No campfires are allowed outside developed recreation areas, which includes the Cheaha Wilderness.

According to Talladega District Ranger Gloria Nielsen, additional wildfires continue to occur across the eastern division of the Talladega National Forest.  “We have several firefighters working on wildfires from Mississippi, Montana, New Mexico and local areas,” said Nielsen. We ask the public to help us prevent wildfires and be aware of all state and federal fire bans and closure orders.
