Angeles National Forest Roads and Trails

RINCON/SHORTCUT ROAD UPDATE:

 Shortcut Road is closed to all access until further notice.

 Rincon Road is open to motor vehicles for 12 miles to a closed gate.  The access/exit point is Hwy 39.  Warning, there are numerous sharp rocks along the road.

 The following motor vehicles may access the Rincon road: 

4x4, Jeep, high-clearance vehicles (18” ground clearance), dual-sport motorcycles and green-sticker vehicles.   All vehicles must be registered.

 Each driver must obtain his own permit w/combination.  Please provide a current Driver’s License and a Vehicle Registration for each vehicle.

 You may obtain your permit at the following locations:

 San Gabriel Canyon Off-Highway Vehicle Area, Sat & Sun from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.,  626) 910-1235.

 San Gabriel River Ranger District office, located in Glendora, Monday - Friday, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., 626) 335-1251.

Highway, roads, and trails in the Angeles National Forest are handled at the federal, state, county and city levels of government. 

Forest Service Managed Roads

The U.S. Forest Service manages highways with the letter “N” in the designation such as 5N12, 6N09, and 7N13. Please contact one of three Angeles district offices closest to the area for concerns about these roads or about trails:

Los Angeles River Ranger District: (818) 899-1900, ext. 221
