Fort Collins, Colo. (June 29, 2011) – Although the Sheep Creek 2 Prescribed Burn was completed (done with ignitions), unburned pockets within the perimeter are now smoldering and putting up smoke.
Firefighters have been monitoring the area since the prescribed burn started. They continue monitoring the current situation and want to reassure residents that they are available to respond as needed.
The Sheep Creek 2 Prescribed Burn project encompassed approximately 3,500 acres of burning in northern Larimer County. This last portion, completed earlier this month, was approximately 500 acres located south of County Road 80C, between George Creek and Cornelius Creek. The goal of the project was to reduce hazardous fuels and improve forest health and wildlife habitat.
If conditions change, information will be posted on the forest’s recorded information line at 970-498-1030.
