New Deputy Forest Supervisor Named
Forest Supervisor Jim Zornes announces Thomas “Tom” Osen as the new Deputy Forest Supervisor for the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests. Osen, a 32- year Forest Service veteran begins his new job on October 1.
“I feel very privileged for the opportunity to work with the employees of the Apache-Sitgreaves, the great resources the Forests offer, and the various publics that we serve,” expressed Osen. “I look forward to meeting the different needs and expectations of the Forests by embarking on a collaborative journey with our stakeholders,” added Osen.
Osen began his career with the Forest Service as a seasonal employee in 1975 on the Gallatin National Forest while he was completing his bachelor’s degree in range management from Montana State University.
He has served in various capacities on four national forests and eight ranger districts in Montana and Idaho including: District Ranger, Forest State & Private Forestry Coordinator, Forest Recreation Staff Officer, Forest Range Staff Officer, Resource Assistant, Range Specialist and Range Technician. Owens is currently serving as Acting Deputy Forest Supervisor on the Coconino National Forest.
Osen’s wife, Patti Johnston and their furry family—four horses, four mules, a yellow lab, and an Australian shepherd—will be moving with him to start their new life in the White Mountains. Johnston is also a Forest Service employee. The two met while they were both working together on the Lewis & Clark National Forest in Montana and have been married since 1998.
