Springerville, AZ; November 15, 2012 — Christmas tree permits are still available for people who want to cut their own tree from a national forest in Arizona. The cost for a permit is $15, and they are available at Big Five Sporting Goods stores across the State as well as from some Forest Service offices. There are approximately 1,400 permits still available at Big Five locations, and more than 3,700 permits have been sold since October 27, 2012.

Several permits for these cutting areas remain available from various Big Five Sporting Goods stores:
  • Area 1 - Black Mesa
  • Area 2 - Lakeside
  • Area 3 – Kaibab
  • Area 6 – Springerville/Alpine
  • Clifton District

Each permit is for a specified cutting area on a national forest, and some cutting areas offer a very limited number of permits and have sold out already. Permits are sold out at all Big Five locations for Area 5 – Payson. Other cutting areas have few remaining permits and may be sold out in the next few days. Check with your local Big Five store for the current availability of permits (see below for a list of participating stores).

In addition to Big Five, some Forest Service offices are selling Christmas tree permits over-the-counter. Contact the respective national forest for information on which offices are offering over-the-counter Christmas tree permits and the remaining availability of permits.
