Contact(s): Leona Rodreick

Northeast of Wisdom in the Anaconda Pintler Wilderness the lightning caused Beaver Creek and Howell Creek fires (reported the evening of August 11) have burned together and is now approximately 1,000 acres.  Since August 12 eight smokejumpers and heavy water air attack support have been working on the fire, but now the smoke jumpers are being removed from the fire for safety. Fire managers are currently assessing the fire activity and developing a suppression strategy.

Additional resources are being ordered. Resources (firefighters/ aircraft) have been difficult to get and/or keep assigned as these fires are burning in the Anaconda Pintler Wilderness and currently located away from values at risk.

Fire officials are also coordinating with Beaverhead and Deer Lodge County Sherriff Offices to make contact with property owners and visitors in the area.
