Hamilton, MT. – The Lake Como boat launch area will be closed for construction starting Monday, April 16th as paving crews work to add 20 additional parking spaces for boat trailers and vehicles. Crews will also be paving the entrance road which leads to the boat ramp and parking area. For public safety, the site will be closed during the duration of the project.
The paving is just the latest in a number of improvements at Lake Como. Last fall, a new concrete boat ramp was constructed. Along with the new ramp, the Bitterroot National Forest is also adding a new wider boat dock. The new dock will allow boaters to tie up on both sides helping to ease congestion and also improving safety.
Last year, the Forest opened a brand new group site area at Lake Como to accommodate larger groups, family gatherings and weddings. They also completely renovated and expanded the upper Three Frogs Campground along with completing major improvements to the historic Woods Cabin. All of the projects, and the new boat dock and ramp, were funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). The Forest received ARRA funding for numerous projects to help enhance access to recreational opportunities, provide for visitor safety and address maintenance and facility issues.
The Lake Como Recreation Area is the most utilized recreation site in the Northern Rockies Region of the Forest Service and is visited by more than 150,000 people annually. The area is extremely popular with boaters, horseback riders, mountain bikers, hikers, day users, campers, and x-country skiers.
