Public Comment Invited on Bridger-Teton Proposal to Sell Downtown Jackson Parcel

Release Date: Jan 25, 2012

Jackson, Wyo. –The Bridger-Teton National Forest will release a Supplement to the Environmental Assessment (EA) for the Jackson Administrative Site Land Conveyance and Development project.

The proposal calls for the sale of up to 11-acres of land at the North Cache site and construction of new facilities there and at the Nelson Drive Residential and Cottonwood Work Center sites.

This Supplement to the EA was prepared to augment the original EA released in October, 2009. A decision was never reached due to changing conditions such as real estate values. Comments, however, were received from some 65 interested publics. Those comments were used to develop a new Alternative 5, and will remain as a part of the project record.

This Supplement to the EA discloses the effects of the new alternative. The Forest Supervisor has identified Alternative 5 as the new Preferred Alternative.

A decision has not been made at this point. Identifying a Preferred Alternative informs the public of Forest Supervisor Jacque Buchanan's intent. This alternative, if selected, would sell 10-acres of land bordering the National Elk Refuge on the north and west boundary, and the recreation center/pool, school, and Kudar property on the southern boundary. The Forest would retain 5.3 acres located on North Cache. This configuration would provide maximum visibility of the office for those entering Jackson, as well as allow the Forest to retain and remodel its facilities. This configuration appears to generate the maximum return for the sale of the land.

Additional information regarding this action can be obtained from Michael Schrotz, P.O. Box 1888, Jackson, WY 83001; 307-739-5560. The EA will be posted at by the close of business on Friday, January 27, 2012.
