Alamosa Prescribed Burn Completed

Release Date: Oct 9, 2014

Taos, NM, October 9, 2014 – Yesterday, the remaining 1,700 acres of the 4,400-acre Alamosa prescribed burn were successfully completed.  The precipitation received in the surrounding communities helped with the smoke dispersal.  Residual smoke will continue for the next few days as fuel in the interior continues to burn but will diminish daily.  Firefighter and other resources from the west zone of the Carson National Forest will continue to monitor any remaining fire activity.  The Alamosa project is located approximately 1 mile southwest of the community of Vallecitos and 8 miles north of El Rito.

For people with respiratory ailments, sensitivities to smoke, or otherwise concerned about air quality impacts, please visit the New Mexico Environment Department’s website at   https://nmtracking.org/fire
