The public is invited to view two movies about natural resource conservation on the evening of Wednesday, March 19 in the Crook County High School auditorium.

The event is sponsored by the Crooked River Watershed Council, Trout Unlimited, and the Ochoco National Forest. Admission is free.

The first movie documents the 2013 removal of Stearns Dam on the Crooked River near Prineville, and runs about 18 minutes.

The second movie is the 2011 Robert Redford documentary titled Forever Wild: Celebrating America’s Wilderness. It runs about 57 minutes.

Light refreshments will be served and a short question and answer session will follow each movie.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Wilderness Act of 1964, a piece of landmark legislation that gave citizens and government the tools to designate federal wilderness.

The Ochoco National Forest invites the public to learn more about wilderness management, the unique history of wilderness legislation, and how diverse citizens around the country have worked to achieve wilderness designation for cherished landscapes.
