Pole Creek Fire - Evening Update - Sept 11

EVENING UPDATE - September 11

The Pole Creek Fire Information office is now fully operational with phone and internet service. The fire information office is located at the Incident Command Post set up at the Sisters Rodeo Ground, on Highway 20, just south of Sisters.

The Fire information phone number is 541-549-6935 and is staffed from 6:30 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. daily.

Crews held lines throughout the day and kept fire spread to a minimum. Two spot fires were staffed, air resources provided assistance to ground crews.

For firefighter and public safety, an area closure remains in place around the vicinity of the fire. The closure includes Forest Service roads 15 and 16, several spur roads leading into the fire area, trailheads and the Three Creeks Campground area. Closed roads will be signed, barricaded, or staffed to advise the public of the closure.

In the event that there is a need for an evacuation, citizens who use a cell phone or a VoIP phone who live in the affected area should go to www.deschutes.org/citizenalerts to register those devices to receive emergency notifications. Reverse 911 will also be used by Deschutes County Sheriffs department for any affected area. At this time, there are no towns, subdivisions or structures under immediate threat of evacuation.

Smoke will remain in the area settling at night into valleys and drainages. Density will depend on wind direction and speed.
