As a long time employee on the Mountainair Ranger District, Arlene has worked tirelessly to share her knowledge and appreciation of the environment with others. The East Torrance Soil & Water Conservation District, who nominated Arlene for the award, captured her enormous contribution by stating that she “helped the Conservation community move into the new millennium. She has set standards of excellence and has provided leadership in creating, nurturing, and furthering the cause of conservation in all of her endeavors...”
Arlene was further recognized for her willingness to address the need for soil, water, animal, plant, or air conservation at every possible opportunity, and for stressing the need to balance scientific technology and common sense with human use and conservation of our natural resources. Finally, the group acknowledged her mission to educate community members, local governments, school districts, civic groups and organizations about the importance of preserving, maintaining, and enhancing our natural resources for current and future generations.
