Forest Fuel Wood Program

As of November 30, 2007:

The Cleveland National Forest has had an active fuel wood program on the forest for many years. This is part of the on-going forest management. This fuel wood program is for national forest land only and does not include any private land areas or areas under other jurisdictions. Please contact the district offices to obtain information on national forest locations that this program applies.

Descanso Ranger District

The public that is interested in obtaining fuel wood in the Laguna Mountain area should contact the Descanso Ranger District at (619) 445-6235. They can provide all of the current information on their fuel wood program.

Current Program

  • Cost of a permit to obtain one cord of wood - $25.00, payable by cash or check only.
  • Permits can be obtained Monday through Wednesday at the Descanso Ranger District at 3348 Alpine Blvd., Alpine, CA - (619) 445-6235. If unable to come on those days, an application for a wood permit can either be mailed to you, or filled out in the office on Mondays, Tuesdays or Saturdays. .
  • Permit requirements/stipulations are attached to the permit
  • Permits are for down and dead wood only. People obtaining the permit are required to cut up and haul the wood.
  • Vehicles can't travel off road - must stay on road ways
  • District office should be contacted prior to cutting to determine if any chainsaw use restrictions apply for that day.

Palomar Ranger District

The public that is interested in obtaining fuel wood in the Palomar Mountain Area should contact the Palomar Ranger District Office at (760) 788-0250. They can provide all of the current information on their fuel wood program.

Current Program

  • Free permits are available contact the district for more information
  • Permits can be obtained at the Palomar Ranger District Office located at 1634 Black Canyon Road in Ramona, CA - (760) 788-0250.
  • Permits are issued based on the availability of wood.
  • Location of the wood is provided with the permit
  • Permit requirements/stipulations are attached to the permit
  • Permits are for down and dead wood only. People obtaining the permit are required to cut up and haul the wood.
  • Vehicles can’t travel off road - must stay on road ways
  • District office should be contacted prior to cutting to determine if any restrictions apply for that day.

Trabuco Ranger District

The Trabuco Ranger District does not allow fuel wood cutting on National Forest System Lands.
