Cleveland National Forest will be moving to Elevated Fire Restrictions

San Diego, CA, (August, 16, 2015) - The Cleveland National Forest will be moving into Elevated Fire Restrictions effective Sunday, August 16 due to the record breaking heat and recent heightened wildfire activity in the surrounding area.

Elevated Fire Restrictions:

  1. Fireworks are never allowed on the Cleveland National Forest
  2. Spark arrestors are required for all off-highway vehicles, chainsaws, and other internal combustion equipment
  3. Welding, grinding, cutting, and the use of explosives, all require proper authorization by Forest Officials when in use on forest land; in conjunction with any other activities requiring a special use authorization, may be restricted
  4. Wood or charcoal fires are allowed only in designated fire rings located in identified developed campgrounds and in identified developed picnic areas
  5. The use of gas and liquid stoves and lanterns, and jelly petroleum stoves are allowed in all but the San Mateo Canyon Wilderness of the Trabuco Ranger District
  6. Discharging of firearms is prohibited on the Forest except for the purpose of hunting in designated areas only during the elected hunting season as established by the California Department of Fish and Game
  7. Target shooting is not allowed on Cleveland National Forest lands
  8. Discharging a firearms using the following ammunition is never allowed on the Cleveland National Forest: steel core, armor piercing, and tracer ammunition
  9. Smoking is prohibited on Forest Service lands within the Forest boundary, except within an enclosed vehicle or building, or within a developed recreation site
