Cleveland National Forest to Implement 14-Hour Staffing

San Diego, CA. (August 28, 2015) - In response to the high temperatures, low relative humidities, critically low fuel moistures, and anticipated increase in forest use over the weekend, fire and aviation on the Cleveland National Forest will be extending hours for fire and aviation personnel until 10:00pm

As temperatures decrease in the evening hours, and moisture levels increase, risk of fire is substantially lowered. Thus the decision to impose augmented staffing, which would allow for 24-hour patrol by staggering personnel, was changed to extended hours as of 4:30pm today. The Cleveland will continue to maintain 15 engines, 6 patrols, 1 crew, and 6 chief officers on duty between the hours of 9:30am and 10:00pm.

The extended staffing will begin today, Friday August 28th, and go through Sunday August 30th

Residents and visitors are asked to be aware of wildfire conditions in your area and take appropriate prevention measures.  Remember that safety should always be a priority. Outdoor activity of any sort during high heat advisories should be accompanied by plenty of water
