Sedona, Arizona — Coconino National Forest fire personnel are monitoring the Point Fire. The fire, reported earlier today (Friday, July 22, 2016), is located on Munds Mountain approximately 5 miles east of Sedona. The fire is approximately 15 acres in size and producing visible smoke.
Coconino National Forest fire crews are dispatched, and are monitoring the lightning-caused fire because of the accessibility and firefighter safety with lightning in the area.

Update July 23, 2016 11:45 a.m.: The Point Fire is currently at 110 acres. Two helicopters with buckets and crew are working to suppress this fire. Fire is most active on the south and west sides. Smoke, and possibly flames, may be visible in Sedona, Village of Oak Creek, Cottonwood, and throughout the Verde Valley, as well as to travelers on SR 179, SR 89A, I-17.
