Happy Jack, AZ —The Mogollon Rim Ranger District is currently managing four lightning caused fires. These fires are being managed to meet resource objectives. The District received numerous wide spread rain showers through out the night, therefore activity on these fires today is expected to be light.

Tag Fire – The Tag fire is 4 miles south of Knoll Lake and 6 miles northwest of Christopher Creek subdivision. This fire started on Sunday, July 11, 2010 and is currently 355 acres. The fire is burning in heavy dead and down fuels with numerous snags. The Babe Haught and General Crook trails are still closed. The General Crook trail is closed from Forest Road 295E and 300 to the Apache-Sitgreaves/Coconino Forest boundary. The primitive camping area from Forest Road 300, north along Forest Road 295E to the 9715T road is still closed. Primitive camping north of Forest Road 9715T has been re-opened for camping and hiking. Today engine crews will continue to monitor the fire.

Ranger Fire – The Ranger fire is 4 miles east of Clint’s Well at the Blue Ridge Reservoir. The fire started on Saturday, July 17, 2010 and is currently 12 acres. The fire is growing slowly, experiencing 8-12 inch flame lengths. The fire is burning in heavy ground litter and heavy accumulation of log’s and forest litter. Fire hazards and dense growth conditions throughout our forests have increased over the years. Due to these conditions, wildfires in the forest can produce a large amount of smoke – more than what we are used to. Right now smoke impacts are light but will likely increase thus affecting some of the subdivisions within the Blue Ridge area. A portion of the Arizona Trail has been closed from Forest Road 123A, north to Forest Road 751B; Rock Crossing Trail No. 18 has also been closed. Fire crews are constructing handlines, and there is a hand line surrounding Rock Crossing Campground. Providing for public safety, there is a possibility that Rock Crossing Campground and the Blue Ridge Reservoir may be closed for a few days next week, due to fire activity.

Plantation – The fire is 6 miles south of Long Lake and 6 miles north of Blue Ridge Ranger Station. The fire is burning in short grass with some timber litter; it is currently 40 acres and is burning at a very low rate of spread. The fire is being monitored from a lookout tower.

Soldier – The Soldier fire is 20 miles east of Camp Verde and is currently 3 acres. The fire is surrounded by roads and is burning at a low rate of spread. This fire is also being monitored from a lookout tower.
