Release Date: Nov 15, 2004
Contact(s): Coconino Supervisor's Office - 928-527-3600
PHOENIX, AZ - After a successful lottery drawing, the Arizona National Forests’ Sale-by-Mail Christmas Tree Program has completely sold out of permits for all seven cutting areas. More than 5,100 applicants entered the drawing for a chance at one of the 4,500 permits.
Since the demand for Christmas Tree-cutting permits exceeds the supply of available trees, a lottery drawing is used to issue permits. Completed applications had to be postmarked and returned to the Tonto Supervisor’s Office no later than October 15. The drawing and processing of applications began October 20, and all successful and unsuccessful permit applicants were notified by mail after November 10. If a permit application was successful, a permit and detailed cutting map for the area was enclosed. If a permit application was unsuccessful, the $10 application fee was returned.
Some national forests are selling additional permits for their areas. Unsuccessful applicants and others who would like to purchase a permit over-the-counter can phone these forests directly for more information.
