Contact(s): Marna Daley, (406) 587-6703

Bozeman, MT…  Forest Service Road #6982 (the Haw Fork Road) near Flathead Pass in the Bridger Mountains will be closed Tuesday, September 20 – Monday, October 3rd.  The closure is needed to replace a major culvert.

The upper portion of South Fork Sixteenmile Drainage is a focus area for native Westslope Cutthroat Trout conservation.  Forest Road 6982 will be temporarily closed to allow replacement of an older, undersized stream culvert which impedes upstream passage of trout with a new culvert designed to facilitate fish passage.  The new culvert will extend the range of available habitat for Westslope Cutthroat Trout in upper South Fork Sixteenmile Creek.

Lisa Stoeffler, Bozeman District Ranger stated, “The construction will be completed as quickly as possible to minimize the inconvenience to people using this area.  If you are looking for a place to go please give our office a call and we can help you find an alternative while construction is ongoing.”
