Motor Vehicle Use Maps / Forest Travel Maps
Winter Use Maps
The Fishlake National Forest completed a route designation process in 2007. Motorized, off-highway vehicle travel is restricted to designated routes and two small play areas only. Recently the forest completed an administrative review and has updated the official Motor Vehicle Use Map (MVUM) as well as the associated Forest Travel Maps and Winter Use Maps, which are available to the public
Note- Maps and images provided in this section are in Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) format
Motor Vehicle Use Maps (MVUM)
Motor Vehicle Use Maps (MVUM) are the official maps for designating all roads and trails available for public motorized travel on the Fishlake National Forest. Visitors should not rely on any other maps for making decisions about motorized travel.
The MVUMs display National Forest System (NFS) routes (roads and trails) designated as open to motorized travel. The MVUMs also display allowed uses by vehicle class (ex. highway-legal vehicles, vehicles 50-inches in width or less, and other wheeled vehicles), seasonal allowances, off-route travel distance allowances, and provides information on other travel rules and regulations.
Routes not shown on the MVUMs are not open to public motor vehicle travel. Routes designated for motorized use may not always have a sign on the ground but will be identified on the MVUMs. It is the traveler’s responsibility to reference the MVUMs and stay on designated routes for motor vehicle use.
The MVUMs are black and white maps with no topographic features. They display legal designations of where you can travel with various motorized vehicles. For additional information, they can used in conjunction with Forest Travel Maps.
The official map is composed of six individual maps based on district boundaries. These maps are formatted for 36" x 48" paper and can be viewed on this website and may be available for viewing at one of the administrative offices of the Fishlake National Forest, such as the Supervisors Office.

How do I print a MVUM?
A full-size version of the maps are 36” x 48” and cannot be printed on conventional home printers. A full-size version can only be printed from a large plotter. Many local copy shops, engineering and survey businesses can print the map.
To be readable, only a portion of the maps can be printed on 8 ½” x 11” paper using home printers. With .pdf viewers/readers, such as Adobe Acrobat Reader, you can use the “Print Current View” function to print the view on your screen.
If you print a portion of a maps on a typical home printer, please also print the Legend for the type of map you are printing, whether it is the MVUM Maps, Forest Travel Maps, or Winter Travel Maps. MVUM maps have additional tables on them that describe short routes and special designations to aid in interpretation of the MVUM.
