Expect Delays on HWY 153 Beginning April 15
Release Date: Apr 5, 2012
John Zapell, 435.896.1070
Beginning April 15, construction work on State Route 153 between Beaver and Junction Utah will result in traffic delays of up to four hours.
The road will be closed through the construction area during the following times:
Monday through Thursday - 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Friday - 8 a.m. to noon
When conditions allow and the Kents Lake Road (Forest Road 137) opens, the construction area will be fully closed, with traffic routed over the Kents Lake Road.
This project is the reconstruction of a segment of the road from milepost 12.3 to milepost14.2. This 2 mile segment ends at the Merchant Valley Dam. This part of roadway has a paved surface 24 feet wide, and has extreme rock-cut faces and steep ravines. The pavement is in poor condition. The roadway widths, geometry, and sight distance are substandard through the planned construction area. This section of roadway also ranks in Utah Department of Transportation's top rock fall hazard locations.
The purpose of this project is to improve safety and ensure mobility by providing a roadway width consistent with adjacent segments, reduce rock fall hazards, increase sight distances, and lower the overall maintenance costs incurred by UDOT.
