GLENWOOD, NM; Oct. 21, 2015 – Approximately fifty people recently attended an informational meeting in Glenwood, NM about the Catwalk National Recreation Area reconstruction project. Representatives from the design build team, comprised of Albuquerque Underground, Inc. (AUI) and Bohannan Huston, Inc. (BHI) estimated the project will be completed by Memorial Day weekend, 2016.

During the meeting, Darrin Howells, AUI and Sean Melville, BHI showed conceptual drawings of one-half mile of reconstruction from the parking lot to the octagon. Work includes removing debris, repaving the parking lot, reconditioning the accessible trail, as well as constructing and improving pedestrian and trail crossings. Gila National Forest employees and Justin Henwood from the Federal Highway Administration were also present to answer questions.

When asked about access to the area while work is occurring, Gila Forest Supervisor Adam Mendonca said, “The Catwalk National Recreation Area will remain closed for public safety. This will allow for the reconstruction work to be accomplished as quickly and safely as possible. We appreciate everyone’s patience during this time.”

A project management sheet that tracks progress will be posted to the Gila National Forest website soon. If you would like more information about this project, please contact Tracy Weber, 575-388-8382 or tracyweber@fs.fed.us.
