Pile Burning Planned on Black Range District

TRUTH OR CONSEQUENCES, N.M., Jan. 14, 2015 – Black Range District fire managers plan to ignite slash piles district-wide beginning Thursday, Jan. 15, 2015. The project duration will vary depending on weather and fuel conditions. The ignition operations may be conducted Monday-Friday.
The primary areas are the Straight Gulch Administrative Site, which is adjacent to the community of Poverty Creek and the Beaverhead Work Center. Smoke may be visible along State Highway 59 near Poverty Creek and around the Beaverhead Work Center. Please use caution when traveling in these areas.
The objectives of these burns are to reduce wildfire threat by removing fuels created from past and ongoing thinning projects and return important nutrients to the soil.
