Gunnison, Colo., March 14, 2016 - The Gunnison Ranger District of the Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre and Gunnison National Forests (GMUG) is offering the opportunity for public comment on the re-alignment of the Baxter Gulch Trail (National Forest System trail #565) near Crested Butte, in Gunnison County, Colorado.

The Baxter Gulch Trail tracks through a mix of private and public land. Construction on the private land section of the trail is currently ongoing.  On the National Forest section, the project will realign/reconstruct approximately 3. 2 miles of trail.  The new trail is planned to have a 24 inch tread width and will be managed as a non-motorized trail for hiking, biking, and horseback riding.  The trail re-construction will improve the long-term sustainability of the trail and provide a better experience for trail users.

The Forest Service welcomes your comments on potential issues or concerns.   Comments will be accepted until April 18, 2016 and can be mailed to Gunnison Ranger District, Attn: Pamela King, 216 N. Colorado St., Gunnison, CO 81230 or emailed to prking@fs.fed.us.

If you have any questions regarding this project please contact Greg Austin, Trails Manager, at 970-642-4402 or gpaustin@fs.fed.us.
