Aerial Treatments of Noxious Weeds to Begin Next Week

HELENA, MONT., September 8, 2014 - As part of an ongoing partnership with Jefferson County, Sky Top Ranch Inc. and the Travis Creek Weed Management Area, the Helena Ranger District plans to aerially treat 100 acres on National Forest System lands in an effort to help prevent further spread of spotted knapweed and musk thistle in the Boulder Mountains.
Aerial treatment is weather dependent and scheduled to occur between September 15 – 30th and will then take between four to eight hours to complete. Signs will be placed on roads and information bulletin boards at least three days before treatment begins, and will remain through the duration of the project.
The treatment will be accomplished using the herbicide Clopyralid, via helicopter. Treatment will take place in T08N, R05W, Sections 05 and 06. The treatment area is south of Travis Creek and directly north of the Park Lake Road.Partners in this coordinated noxious weeds mitigation effort also plan to treat about 200 acres of private land, by aerially spraying in this area.
