A Two-Day Hands-On Grand Island Archaeology Workshop for Youth

Release Date: Apr 6, 2015

Grand Island Archaeology ProjectMunising, MI -- On June 24-25, 2015, the Hiawatha National Forest will host its 16th Grand Island Youth Archaeology Workshop -- a hands-on archaeology experience for Alger and Marquette County youths. Participants will gain a new understanding of our area history and the importance of protecting cultural resources as they participate in an actual survey on Grand Island National Recreation Area.

Given the delicate and precise nature of archaeological work, we are especially looking for youth who enjoy working with details and who follow instructions well. A genuine interest in archaeology is an added bonus.

This workshop can only accommodate a limited number of participants; therefore, we are asking interested youth to complete the attached application form.

Please return the completed forms (application, special needs form, image release, and volunteer agreement) by May 15, 2015, to:

Hiawatha National Forest
Attn: Youth Archaeology Workshop
400 East Munising Avenue
Munising, MI 49862

We’ll send notification of selection status to students by June 1, 2015. Thank you for your interest in this program.  If you or your parents have questions about the project, please contact Eric Drake at (906) 428-5800, extension 5817 or ericdrake@fs.fed.us.
