Release Date: Jul 16, 2015

GLADSTONE, MI – Acting Forest Supervisor, Richard Periman, and District Ranger, Robert West, announced recently that the Final Decision Notices and Findings of No Significant Impact (DN/FONSI) for the Smithers Rubber and Plastic Research Association (RAPRA) project were signed on July 9, 2015, and can be implemented on, but not before, the fifth business day following the end of the objection filing period pursuant to 36 CFR 218.12.

Detailed records of the environmental analysis for the subject project are available for public review at the St. Ignace Ranger District Office, W1900 West US 2, St. Ignace, MI  49781.  More information is also available on the Forest’s website:   http://www.fs.usda.gov/projects/hiawatha/landmanagement/projects.

The final decisions are to select the Proposed Action and include a project-specific Forest Plan amendment to re-classify land included in the projectarea as described in the March 2015 Environmental Assessment.  The proposed action would allow Smithers RAPRA to continue operations as permitted in the existing special use permit, as amended, and to implement additional activities as described and analyzed in the environmental assessment.
