Whirlpool Recreation Site to Close Temporarily
Release Date: May 11, 2017
Contact(s): Kenneth Arbogast
The U.S. Forest Service will temporarily close the Whirlpool Recreation Site along the Au Sable River for construction beginning May 15 for approximately six weeks.
The site is located west of Oscoda on the River Road National Scenic Byway.
During that time, a contractor will increase the size of the parking area, reduce erosion into the river and make other general improvements. Several trees will be removed to permit these improvements. Tree removal can be very dangerous, and the public will not be able to access the site during this work.
The project is expected to be completed no later than June 30.
The site will be closed with a barricade. A public announcement will be made once the site re-opens.
