Little girl learns to identify cloudsAdventures With Nature Day is held on the fourth Saturday in June from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Several organizations and agencies work together to make the day fun and educational. There are door prizes given out and many of the booths allow the children to make things to take home.

Various programs are given including this one on raptors.A variety of events are hosted, including past programs in geology and how our area was formed; differences in clouds and an activity where children made 'cloud finders; bee hive demonstrations showing how honey production works; and programs presenting snakes, discussing their habitat and habits; and even  birds of prey and how each of them live and feed.

Volunteers help children build bluebird boxes.Throughout the day, exhibitors are on hand to talk about a variety of 'nature' activities. Bluebird box are built with the help of Lincoln Hills RC&D Fish & Wildlife Committee; tree identification is explained by DNR Division of Forestry District Foresters; David Grow, Consultant with a background in watershed management showed children how a tree grows; wood (actually soap) carving was done with the children and was explained by Ed Morey, Master Naturalist; Forest Service employees had many nature games to play; and a nature store is on site sponsored by Eastern National Forest Interpretive Association. In the past wagon rides have been made possible by the Southern Indiana Draft Horse and Mule Association. Perry Central Band Boosters were on hand serving food for hungry visitors. And of course, the event was made special by a visit from Smokey Bear!

Naturalist leads a group of children in a nature bingo game.Adventures With Nature is sponsored by Lincoln Hills Resource Conservation & Development, Indiana Department of Natural Resources Division of Forestry, Perry & Spencer Counties Soil & Water Conservation Districts, and the US Forest Service.

We recommend that people bring lawn chairs and no pets are allowed at the event for public safety.

There is a $3.00 Gate Fee charged per car to enter Tipsaw Lake where the event is held.
