East Side Lolo NF Fire Update -- Aug 5, 2 P.M.

Summary: There has been initial attack today and yesterday on five fires on the east side of the Lolo National Forest. This does not include the Colorado Gulch Fire, which is on private land and being managed under a Unified Command of the Lolo NF and DNRC. The Colorado Gulch Fire is now contained at two and one half acres. The largest east side Lolo NF fire over the last two days has been the Tarkio Fire at three acres. The Sanders Fire on the Missoula Ranger District about two miles northeast of Point Six remains at approximately two acres. It is burning in rocky, steep terrain. Fire managers will continue to use helicopters to drop water as needed to check growth on this fire. Fire managers are also sending firefighters to the Sanders Fire area today to assess fire activity and possibly take action to contain fire growth. Please see attached photos of this fire

Ninemile Ranger District: Tarkio Fire, three acres, about one-half mile east of the Tarkio Fishing access off of I-90. This fire is contained and firefighters are continuing mop-up. The Irish Creek Fire is approximately 17 miles south of Tarkio, under one acre, contained and on patrol. The Telephone Butte Fire is less than one acre, located about seven miles north of Lolo Creek Campground. This fire remains in initial attack. There are no structures nearby or threatened by this fire.

Seeley Lake Ranger District: Morrell Fire about one mile west of the Morrell Falls Trailhead is less than one acre. This fire is contained and on patrol

Missoula Ranger District: Sanders Fire on the Missoula Ranger District about two miles northeast of Point Six. This fire is approximately two acres and is burning in rocky, steep terrain. Fire managers will continue to use helicopters to drop water as needed to check fire growth. They are also sending firefighters to the fire area this morning to assess the fire area. Firefighters may take action to contain fire growth after assessing the fire area.

Howard Creek Fire Area Closure: This Area Closure has been rescinded. This area and the Wagon Mountain road are now open.
