Routt Recreation Roundtable Application Period Now Open

(STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo.) May 20, 2019 – The Steering Committee of the Routt Recreation Roundtable is accepting applications for the initial seating of the Roundtable through 5pm on Friday, May 31, 2019. The Roundtable is designed to be a diverse representative body that is poised to deliver non-binding input and recommendations to entities that currently manage recreational opportunities in the area.
Recreation planning and policy making processes often need, and sometimes require, public input. The Roundtable will explore how recreational opportunities can meet interests such as enhancing enjoyment, mitigating user conflicts, and reducing or eliminating long-term environmental impacts.
“Routt County is known for its natural surroundings and recreational opportunities, which helps drive the economy and improve the lifestyle of those who live in and visit this mountain community,” commented Kent Foster with the US Forest Service. “However, with demand for outdoor access and trails ever increasing, there is a need to coordinate thoughtful input from recreational user and interest groups into planning and decision-making. This community forum will work to develop a collaborative environment for information sharing and understanding, deliberation, and hopefully consensus-building.”
The Roundtable encompasses 21 seats - one for each of 16 user/interest groups as well as 5 ‘at-large’ seats. The Roundtable Steering Committee is comprised of representatives from the Bureau of Land Management, City of Steamboat Springs, Colorado Parks & Wildlife, Routt County and the US Forest Service. This new standing Roundtable is being established following the convening of stakeholders to discuss the proposed Mad Rabbit trails network that occurred over the course of four meetings in the first quarter of 2019.
