(LARAMIE, Wyo.) November 3, 2014 – A temporary, two-day closure of Forest Road 500 on the Medicine Bow National Forest will occur Tuesday and Wednesday, Nov. 4-5, of this week.

U.S. Forest Service crews will be replacing a worn-out culvert just west of the junction of the 500 road with Forest Road 513, which is approximately two miles west of Albany, Wyo.

Forest users in this area of the Laramie Ranger District (LRD) should be aware of the short-term closure and should plan accordingly. Alternate routes to circumvent the closure are available to the south using the 513, 517, 512 and 543 roads.

No through traffic on the 500 road will be permitted during this construction. The timing of the project coincides with the conclusion of most big-game hunting seasons in the area.

During the brief closure period travelers should expect to encounter trucks and equipment on nearby roads and highways. Visitors are reminded to be aware of and avoid heavy equipment operating in the area. Do not enter the closed area, as it is closed for public safety.

The temporary road closure is a short-term necessity for long-term forest health and public safety. The U.S. Forest Service appreciates the patience of all visitors affected by the work.

LRD visitors are encouraged to check the latest status of roads by calling 307-745-2300 or stopping by the District Office at 2468 Jackson Street in Laramie from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
