July 29 Lightning Fire Update

Modoc National Forest has supressed a series of wildfires following local thunderstorm activity this month. Fire crews have contained the Kephart fire, that had been discovered burning in light fuels and juniper within the Doublehead Ranger District.

The 5.1 acre Kephart Fire, is located southeast of Timber Mountain Lookout at 43N 6E SEC 15 and was declared contained yesterday.

The 15 acre White Fire was declared contained and controlled on July 24. This fire is located within the northern Devils Garden Ranger District at 47N 10E Section 18.

Contained and controlled lightning fires are checked by fire crews until declared out.

Fires in the Forest may be reported to the Modoc Interagency Communications Center (MICC), by calling 530-233-4581. The MICC coordinates and dispatches resources to respond to wildland fires within the Modoc National Forest, Lava Beds National Monument, Klamath Basin and Modoc National Wildlife Refuges.
