New District Ranger Reports to Ocala National Forest
Release Date: Apr 26, 2016
The Ocala National Forest will have a new leadership starting May 2, 2016 when District Ranger Carl Bauer reports for duty. Bauer replaces Mike Herrin who left the position in February.
Bauer comes to Florida from the Oregon Dunes Natural Resource Area/Central Coast Ranger District of the Siuslaw National Forest in Oregon where he was Deputy District Ranger. His natural resource management career dates back to 1988 with numerous assignments with the Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management. He graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science in Forestry and with minors in Forest Management and Outdoor Recreation.
“I have always enjoyed working with people to accomplish recreation and natural resource projects” said Bauer.
“We are fortunate to get someone of Carl’s caliber to tackle the complex issues the Ocala National Forest faces.” said Forest Supervisor Kelly Russell. “Having a large number of visitors and urban influences makes the Ocala a challenging place.”
Bauer says that he looks forward to meeting and working with forest neighbors, partners, and others passionate about their national forests. He believes that, working together, we can care for the land and serve people for future generations.
Bauer and wife, Melissa, plan to live in the local area. They have a twelve year old young son and a seven year old daughter who are excited to explore some new ocean coastlines. The family recently visited Disney World, a trip that had been planned for over a year.
