Repairs Slated for Forest Service Road 33-Taneum

Release Date: Jun 23, 2015

Beginning July 6, 2015 Forest Service Road 33, Taneum will be closed to public use from 6:00AM until 6:00PM Monday through Thursday and from 6:00AM until Noon on Friday between Taneum Guard Station and Icewater Creek Campground near the junction with Forest Service Road 3330, Gnat Flat. The road will be open evenings and weekends.

Segments of the road damaged by floodwaters will be repaired. This project will involve replacing and adding new gabions in Taneum Creek as well as repair and reconstruction of two segments of the road itself. Gabions, or rock filled cages, will be placed in the creek to prevent erosion and protect the integrity of the steam channel as well as the adjacent road.

Road repairs are expected to be complete by mid-September.

Forest visitors wishing to access the area above the closure can do so by driving over Peoh Point on Forest Service Road 3350 which originates on Westside Road near South Cle Elum. The area can also be accessed by traveling on Manastash Road, Forest Service Roads 31, 3120 and 3330.

Taneum Campground will be open for public use only Friday and Saturday nights during the construction project. Campers will be able to check into the campground at 1:00PM on Friday and will need to vacate the campground by 2:00PM on Sunday.
