Identifying a Sustainable Roads System
Approximately 2,000 miles of Forest roads provide access for resource management, recreation, and other uses. About 1,400 miles are open to motorized vehicles and 600 miles are closed, that may be opened for resource management.
As part of a national effort, we are conducting a road system analysis to identify the minimum road system needed “for travel and for administration, utilization, and protection of National Forest System lands.” *
