Lake Superior Performance Rally: Request for Comments

Kenton, MI. – District Ranger Barbara Van Alstine announced today that the Scoping Letter for the Lake Superior Performance Rally has been completed. This document describes a Forest Service proposal to authorize a special use permit to establish a set of routes on 86 miles of Forest Roads for use in the annual Lake Superior Performance Rally (LSPR) for to the Sports Car Club of America. Comments are being sought on this proposal.
This Scoping Letter is available upon request at the Kenton Ranger District’s office or at the following libraries: Gogebic Community College, Ironwood, Michigan; Northern Michigan University, Marquette, Michigan; and Michigan Technological University, Houghton, Michigan, as well as the Ottawa National Forest’s website: http://fs.usda.gov/goto/ottawa/projects. Comments can be sent to the Kenton Ranger District’s office (attention: Environmental Coordinator), 4810 E. M-28, Kenton, MI 49967 or via e-mail to: comments-eastern-ottawa@fs.fed.us (please put “Comments to the PRO Rally” in the subject line). To be eligible to object to this project, scoping comments need to be received or postmarked by June 4, 2014.
The proposed action includes providing an established set of routes available for use in this annual rally, and includes consideration of a 10-year special use permit to use approximately 86 miles of road under federal jurisdiction. The roads under consideration are as follows: Kenton Ranger District, Forest Roads 1300, 1320, 1334, 2210, 3500, 3610, 3616, 3630, 3660 and 4580; Ontonagon Ranger District, Forest Roads 1460 and 1470; and Watersmeet Ranger District, Forest Road 4500.
