Ward Fire Update – 9:30 am

Quincy, CA – April 16, 2015 – More accurate ground mapping indicates the Ward fire is currently 137 acres. Late Wednesday afternoon, two spot fires were identified on the northeast side of the fire. Firefighters were able to quickly put line around both and continue to monitor and mop up.
There is hand line, dozer line and hose lay completely around the fire. Crews are continuing to mop up in several areas in and around the fire perimeter. Containment is still at 80% with full containment expected by Friday.
The fire is located in Genesee Valley (T25N, R11E, Section 12), about 10 air-miles southeast of Taylorsville, CA. The fire started in the afternoon of Monday, April 13, 2015, burning from private land into national forest, growing as a result of brisk winds. Rain and calmer, cooler weather slowed the fire on Tuesday & Wednesday. There are no injuries to date and no structures are involved. The cause remains under investigation.
