The oldest known human remains ever recovered from the Arctic/Subarctic of North America were found at the Upward Sun River site. Child burials identified at the site represent the earliest evidence for complex mortuary behaviors yet discovered. Upward Sun River offers a rare glimpse into the activities and social customs of some of the earliest residents of North America.
Site connection to the National Historic Preservation Act
Discovered during Section 106 survey prior to a rail extension project and is eligible to the National Register of Historic Places.
