White House Council on environment Quality GreenGov Presidential Award Received by Dr. Jones-Crabtree

GOLDEN, Colo., Oct. 13, 2010Rocky Mountain Acting Regional Forester Tony Dixon announced today that Dr. Anna Jones-Crabtree, Executive Director Sustainable Operations, U.S. Forest Service, Western Collective, received the White House Council on Environmental Quality “Sustainability Hero Award.”  The 2010 GreenGov Presidential Awards recognize the exceptional efforts to promote sustainable operations in government agencies.  

 

“Congratulations to Dr. Jones-Crabtree for receiving this presidential honor recognizing her phenomenal efforts in assisting the Forest Service reduce its carbon footprint, energy consumption and costs,” said Tony Dixon, Acting Regional Forester, U.S. Forest Service. “This award demonstrates how the Forest Service has aligned its business operations to mirror the strong land stewardship of the public lands they manage.”

 

Dr. Anna Jones-Crabtree was awarded “Sustainability Hero Award” for catalyzing an interagency effort in sustainable practice at the U.S. Forest Service’s facilities and fleet, and in its purchasing and waste processes.  Her projects have saved 964 billion BTUs and nearly $10.1 million in energy costs, reduced fleet miles-driven by approximately 720,000 miles, increased annual biodiesel and E-85 use by 12,800 gallons and 90,800 gallons, respectively, and saved more than 970 million gallons of water.

 

“President Obama asked the Federal Government to lead by example when it comes to building a sustainable future focused on clean and renewable energy,” said Nancy Sutley, Chair of the White House Council on Environmental Quality.  “These winning entries, representing seven Federal agencies, are clearly leading by example in their innovative use of environmentally responsible products and technologies.”

 

Anna Jones-Crabtree is the first executive director for a Western United States collective of six Forest Service regional offices and research stations working to increase organizational capacity and capability to implement sustainable operations. She has served as the sustainable operations coordinator for the Rocky Mountain and Northern Regions of the Forest Service and was the founding co-chair of the Greater Yellowstone Coordinating Committee’s Sustainable Operations Subcommittee.  Dr. Jones-Crabtree is a licensed Professional Engineer and a U.S. Green Building Council LEED Accredited Professional.
