Agencies to address annual outlook Wednesday at McClellan Airpark

VALLEJO, Calif., May 21, 2012 — This Wednesday, May 23, at 1 p.m. fire officials from key public lands agencies are gathering in Sacramento to address the outlook for the 2012 wildfire season in California and provide important reminders for homeowners and outdoor recreationists prior to the busy Memorial Day weekend.

Representatives from the U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, National Park Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and Cal Fire will be on hand to discuss these topics as well as fire prevention, firefighting resources, the ecological benefits of fire and new programs to hire veterans as wildland firefighters.

The following fire officials from federal and state agencies are scheduled to speak:

  • Willie R. Thompson, Deputy Director, Fire and Aviation Management, U.S. Forest Service, Pacific Southwest Region
  • Clare Frank, Assistant Deputy Director, Cal Fire
  • Sid Beckman, Deputy Fire Management Officer, National Park Service, Pacific West Region
  • Paul Bannister, Fire Management Officer, Bureau of Land Management
  • Richard Hadley, Deputy Regional Fire Management Officer, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
Remarks by the above speakers will be followed by a question and answer session for media. There will be a display of firefighting equipment outdoors consisting of wildland fire engines, patrols and other apparatus.
