Please join us in a dialog focused on the future of the Sierra Nevada and the Cascades, specifically on national forest lands. The Dialogs provide opportunities for learning, aligning actions, and understanding a broad range of perspectives.

This Dialog will focus on Monitoring as it relates to forest planning and management. The goal is to discuss needs, trends and options for monitoring forest health and productivity to support adaptive management of forests.

Participants will consider which indicators are useful for monitoring social, economic and environmental trends in the Sierra and Cascades, as well as discussing opportunities for partnership in monitoring and collaborative monitoring programs.

To prepare for the Dialog, participants may find it useful to review the draft of the desired conditions the Forest Service is currently considering for their Early Adopter forests. Participants are also encouraged to use this worksheet and consider the following questions:

  • Which indicators and characteristics should the Forest Service monitor to inform forest management decisions?
  • What are the challenges and opportunities for collecting and analyzing and using different indicators for monitoring?
  • What are the opportunities for partnerships with the Forest Service for collaborative monitoring?

The Next Dialog will be October 15, 2015

The topic for the 15th Dialog has yet to be selected: We welcome topics suggestions.
