In this session, we discussed a range of critical issues that affect the Sierra Nevada and the Cascades and people who live, work, and recreate there. The Dialogs focus on the future of the Sierra Nevada and Cascades regions, specifically the national forests. The goal is to provide an opportunity for mutual learning, aligned actions, and understanding different perspectives.
On May 30, the Dialog concentrated on the draft report for the Bioregional Assessment. The “assessment” is part of the initial work underway as the Inyo, Sierra, and Sequoia National Forests revise their forest plans. The Bioregional Assessment Report focuses on existing conditions and trends for the entire Sierra Cascades. The draft Report is succinct, integrating information from the 15 topical papers on Our Living Assessment, an online Wiki web site.
Each forest will be able to draw on the Bioregional Assessment Report as a foundation for revising the forest plans. Each forest will also conduct its forest-level assessment report in addition to the Bioregional. The deadline for providing information to be considered in the draft report was June 15, 2013. Thank you to all who provided input.
2013 Dialogs: Jan 24, Jan 25, May 30, Fall Date TBA
Future Dialog Topics: Water Resources | All Lands Approach to Fire Protection and Ecological Restoration | Utilization of Wood Waste for Multiple Benefits | Effective Monitoring | Changing Climate
