Job Corps Civilian Conservation Center Program
The USDA Forest Service manages 28 of the 128 Job Corps Civilian Conservation Centers under an Inter-agency Agreement with the Department of Labor. Four of those Job Corps Centers are located within the Eastern Region:
- Blackwell – Laona, WI
- Golconda – Golconda, IL
- Harpers Ferry – Harpers Ferry, WV
- Mingo – Puxico, MO
Since 2006, the Eastern Region of the Forest Service has placed numerous Job Corps graduates into a variety of positions – forestry, fire, facilities maintenance, business management, and more.
Many Job Corps graduates are individuals who have already graduated high school, have work experience, and who are looking for a new career opportunity and vocational training.
The Job Corps program serves teens and adults (ages 16-24) and provides:
- Vocational and technical training
- GED programs and High School Diplomas
- Programs to aid entrance into Colleges and Universities
- Free housing, food, work clothes, healthcare
- Career counseling and transition support for up to six months upon graduation
Hiring authorities that can be used for Job Corps enrollees include:
- Public Land Corps – 640 hours of work training for non-competitive appointment
- Pathways – Internship Program
- Schedule A – People with Disabilities
- 1039 – part-time or intermittent
- Unpaid Work Experience, Individuals with Disabilities – Clients of State Vocational Rehabilitation Agencies
