With its unique geology and topography, the Siskiyou crest has contributed to Wrangle Camp’s beautiful biodiversity. This special place, located along the Siskiyou Crest, has been enjoyed by people for nearly a century, and is a well-known recreation destination for outdoor enthusiasts that is popular for camping, hiking, and enjoying wildflowers.
In recent years, resource damage due to illegal off-roading through the meadow at Wrangle Camp has been a concern for both the Forest and local conservation groups. This concern has brought together a diverse group of people to find a common solution. The pole fence project is designed to protect sensitive, high-elevation wet meadows and to encourage responsible use while enjoying this Siskiyou Mountains gem. Collaborative partnerships between agencies, organizations and stewards are coming together to help keep Wrangle Camp a destination area for everyone to enjoy while encouraging responsible stewardship on their public lands.
Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest, Klamath Siskiyou Wildlands Center and the Northwest Youth Corps have joined efforts to implement a stewardship pole fencing project at Wrangle Camp on the Siskiyou Mountains Ranger District. The Northwest Youth Corps is scheduled to begin assembling the pole fence support structures on Tuesday, August 23 at the Siskiyou Mountains Ranger District. Work will continue over the next few weeks at Wrangle Camp until the fence is completed.
This project is made possible through a collaboration of federal land managers, conservation groups, and Northwest Youth Corps, a youth development and job training organization that supports environmental stewardship on public lands. Funding from the National Forest Foundation and Carpenter Foundation was made possible by KS Wild. Fence building is being provided by the Northwest Youth Corps, and materials that include posts and rails are being supplied by the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest.
